  • Good Night Out is expanding our late-night outreach team to Victoria, territories of the Lekwungen peoples, and are seeking a person to fill the part-time coordinator role.

    The important stuff.

    Hours of work: 20 hours a week

    Location of work: This is a work from home position. Good Night Out does not currently have a physical office in Victoria. As such, access to a computer and reliable internet is needed.

    Pay: $25.00 per hour. There is a $30.00 / month tech stipend

    Requirements.

    We are seeking someone who is:

    • is adept at forging and maintaining community relationships

    • is skilled at launching new community projects

    • is experienced at working independently, as well as a collaborative member of a remote team consisting of paid team members and volunteers

    • has experience doing community based peer outreach

    • can get around Victoria via car, transit, bike or other form of transportation

    Assets.

    Any of the following skills and experience would be a bonus:

    • Skilled in maintaining a Customer Relationship Management platform

    • Work experience in similar environment (small, grassroots, growing nonprofit)

    • Understanding of intersectional feminism and experience working in anti violence and / or harm reduction

    Key Responsibilities.

    • With the project coordinator, conducting an environmental scan of potential stakeholders for this project and inputting research into project database.

    • Meeting with potential stakeholders to inform the structure and operations of the outreach team.

    • Weekly project meetings.

    • Recruit and hire outreach members.

    • With the project coordinator and project team, train outreach members.

    • Support the outreach team ongoing, troubleshooting issues that arise as needed.

    • Collect and report out on data regarding the team activities.

    • Support the establishment of a ‘Community Check’ committee.

    • Contribute to learning resources.

    • Acquire and maintain inventory for the team.

    • Research opportunities for ongoing funding and sustainability for the project.

    • Participate in program evaluation.

    • Promote the team and services through targeted engagement, digital and print promotion.

    • Contribute to mid and end of funding reports.

    This is a temporary posting paid for with grant funding, with work guaranteed until apx. Dec 31 2025. There is a possibility that this position will be renewed beyond this date pending funding.

    This job may require interacting with police and others in law enforcement.

  • Good Night Out is growing and it is time to update our internal operations. As a result, we are seeking an experienced contractor to build an in-house payroll system and related policies and procedures for the organization as well as conduct a review of and provide guidance on accounting practices.

    Important Stuff.

    Location of work: This contract position is remote with the option to work in our shared community space in Vancouver on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Skxwú7mesh and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ people. This means that regular access to a computer and wifi is required. Meetings with the team can take place virtually and in-person as needed and preferred.

    Pay: Minimum of $50 -$100 an hour, depending on skills and experience. As this is a grant-funded project, there is a maximum dollar value tied to this body of work. Full terms, scope and rate of pay will be agreed upon in writing prior to the commencement of work. Given the funding, some items listed in this posting may be prioritized to complete the project within budget.

    Hours of work: As this is a contractor position the contractor can establish their schedule as works for them, recognizing that:

    • Meetings with the organization will need to take place Monday-Friday within traditional working hours.

    • The project will ideally be completed within 30 days of starting, unless otherwise agreed upon.

    Key Responsibilities.

    Good Night Out is moving from being an organization that utilizes volunteers, contract staff and monthly Interac money transfers to an employee setting with bi-weekly in-house payroll and is seeking an experienced contractor for a short term (apx. 30 days) Payroll Systems Implementation project. We expect that the key responsibilities of this position will consist of:

    Payroll Systems

    • Determining the best software for the organization to use for accounting and payroll purposes and oversee the initial onboarding / implementation of the software.

    • Set the organization up to process payroll .

    • Set the organization up to remit payroll deductions and contributions to the Canada Revenue Agency and WorkSafe BC.

    • Collaborate with organization staff to identify and review draft related procedures around (not an exhaustive list):

      * Ensuring accuracy and timely processing of bi-weekly in-house payroll in compliance with all necessary regulations and laws.

      * Processing employee deductions, time off and holidays using recommended / selected software.

      * The submission of expenses.

      * Completing the standard year end payroll tasks including statutory reporting (Income tax filing, T4s, T4As, etc.)

      * Preparing bi-weekly paychecks .

      * Preparing reports on payroll status, such as weekly pay statements, expense reports or balance sheets.

      * Processing new hires and termination in recommended / selected software

      * Updating employee data such as rates increases, status changes, address changes, etc.

    Accounting

    • Provide a review of our current invoicing and accounts receivable practices and recommend changes, tools and software as needed.

    Qualifications.

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, professional accounting designation (CPA, Canada) and Certified Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP, Canada) designation or equivalent education and experience from a recognized program.

    • Experience building payroll systems and related Standard Operating Procedures in the nonprofit sector

    • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

    • Demonstrated knowledge, ability and experience in the design and development of digital data collection and payroll systems in a computerized environment.

    • Extensive knowledge of payroll regulations and issues of compliance.

    • Extensive knowledge of requirements for non-profits to be in compliance with CRA

    • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies and regulations.

    • Experience in workflow design and business process improvements.

    • Knowledge of a range of payroll and accounting software

    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

    • Able to work without direct supervision

  • A Swiss Army Knife, but a Human!

    Good Night Out is going through a period of growth and so we are seeking someone to help us out with a variety of things, tasks, and to-dos for the next 3 months. You are an organized multi-tasker who is down for a little bit of everything.

    The important stuff:

    Hours of work: up to a total of 35 hours a month. The majority of these can be flexible with some fixed weekly meetings. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. This means that regular access to a computer and wifi is required.

    Location of work: Good Night Out does not have an office and so the work will take place in a variety of workshops across the territories of the Lekwungen peoples.

    Pay: an honorarium paid monthly equivalent to 22/ hour.

    We are seeking someone who:

    • is able to work without direct supervision

    • is adept at helping with multiple priorities across projects

    • is experienced at working independently, as well as a collaborative member of a remote team consisting of paid team members and volunteers

    • can get around Victoria via car, transit, bike or other form of transportation

    We expect that this temporary contract position will include the follow tasks on a weekly and / or monthly basis:

    • Supporting our workshop program (scheduling, logistics and facilitation support)

    • Assisting with table / info boothing at events

    • Creating content for our social media channels

    • Answering email and social media inquiries about services

    • Delivering materials (posters, promotional items) to partner establishments
